People of Ahimsa is a community of dedicated individuals who seek to find nonviolent pathways that can bring lasting and just peace to Ukraine and Russia. We recognize that peace and justice go together and neither is achieved through violence or endless attack-and-retaliation cycles. We also understand the crucial role that civil society plays in finding alternative solutions to conflicts that can create meaningful change. This is why People of Ahimsa will work to build bridges of understanding between ordinary Ukrainians and Russians, as well as engage with civil society members of both countries who want the military aggression of Russia against Ukraine to stop and the process of reconciliation to begin. Our Core Values:

Nonviolence

We embrace nonviolence as both a holistic ethical value and a guiding principle for individual and social life. Our commitment to nonviolence stems from our recognition of the sacredness of life. It shapes the way we resist actions that lead to destruction and war.

Restorative Justice

We acknowledge that a sustainable and fair peace requires justice, which involves honesty, taking responsibility for harm done, and a willingness to repair it. Our approach aligns with restorative justice principles, and we reject any form of revenge or punishment.

Inner & Outer Peace

For us, peace is both a means and an end. We understand that collective peace depends on individuals who embody peaceful consciousness and align their beliefs and lifestyles with it. We support and advocate for peaceful means of resisting state violence in all its forms.

"Everyone talks about peace, but nobody educates for peace. People educate for competition, and this is the principle for any war. When we educate to cooperate and be in solidarity with each other, that day we will be educating for peace."
